material: i initially thought it was solid bronze, as it is very heavy. one foot was cracked when found which has since detached showing that the item is actually some other sort of brittle shimmering metal which has been thinly bronzed (see detail photo). oxidizing, with no additional patina. source: galveston, texas label reads: that it is a weather machine, explains
symbols are seasons. also research: symbols do not match traditional seasonal runes. ended with a query to the library of congress -- their records show no history of the manufacturing company or any entries for a weather machine. it is possible that this the housing for an object (a barometer?) formerly housed in the middle. next step: will probably write to a historical society in its town of origin. |

--- item: 2 --- material: solid brass source: houston, texas description: solid piece with hexagonal base,
trapezoidal face with symbols, eyelet top. craftsmanship: apparent seams from mould look hand cleaned, no patina research: folks seem to think that this is a jewish or masonic item but without a specific reason or any verification. next step: have no idea where to start. this may just be decorative nonsense. |
